427 days. Four hundred and twenty-seven days since I last ran. It has felt like an absolute lifetime, waiting, waiting and waiting for my time. And finally, TODAY I RAN!
I can't begin to explain how alien it felt. Ruth put me on the treadmill and said: "Right, off you go!" I looked back wide-eyed. "Really? Like right now?!"
We just did a two-minute steady jog - my gosh, I forgot how tiring running was! Within a minute I was breathing heavy, but this is all to come with time. We are hoping over the next few weeks that we can get up 20 minutes of jogging, then we can start to make "training sessions" out of running.
I am delighted to report - no aches, pains, nothing! I am feeling tired after a very productive week, but I am already raring to go next week. Increased time on the treadmill, heavier weights and new exercises added to the program - what's not to be excited about.
Again, I am thankful for all the people who helped me get to this point! This is the start of the comeback, and I cannot wait to get even more stuck in!
I spoke in my last blog about micro-goals and the importance of setting them.
I sat down on Sunday night and said to myself "What do I want to achieve this week?" Only one thing came to mind... to run. I stopped thinking when, if, how and decided it was simply going to happen. I focused all my energy and efforts into making sure I could get on that treadmill today - and look what happened.
Stop thinking "I can't" and start thinking "I will" and see how far it gets you.
